Smoothie Bowls – What’s the Hype All About?

Smoothie Bowls

Yesterday I mentioned some detoxifying benefits of a vegan diet. One easy vegan recipe you can have for either breakfast or lunch is a smoothie bowl! Lately I have been obsessed with making smoothie bowls. If you’re not familiar with what it is, it’s basically just as the name states – a smoothie in a bowl. The smoothie is usually made much thicker ( more of a sorbet consistency ) and is topped with a variety of toppings.

One of the reasons I love smoothie bowls, aside from how delicious they are, is because they are much more filling than traditional smoothies due to all the toppings. Not only that, but I tend to eat them much slower than I would drink a smoothie.

Guilt-free goodness in a glass

spinach popeye

There are many good things to be known about spinach apart from the famous boost of strength that the pipe-smoking sailor-man Popeye used to take from it when faced with trouble.

The dark green leaves contain high levels of chlorophyll and health promoting carotenoids (beta carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin) with anti-inflammatory and anti-cancerous properties and are especially important for healthy eye-sight, helping to prevent macular degeneration and cataracts – so not only Popeye’s biceps would bulge when he opened a tin of spinach, but his sight would get sharper, his energy – restored and his vitality – improved.

Ready-to-go Probiotic Protein!

Smoothie is alive

This nutritious mix is loaded with all the probiotic benefits of kombucha, goat yogurt, the digestive enzymes of papaya, and potassium and energy provided by banana.

Kombucha is well known for restoring the balance in the gut, where there is always an ongoing battle between good and bad bacteria, also since it contains black tea, it triggers a spark to activate your metabolism. Yogurt is also loaded with probiotics; I prefer goat yogurt is for its high content of protein and low content of fat. The Papain enzyme in the papaya breaks down the protein chain of amino acids for the fastest absorption of the yogurt protein. B6 in banana synthesize non-essential amino acids. All these factors work to make this smoothie easy to digest and keep the amount of energy used for digestion at a minimum level and keeping you active and on the go with a good dose of protein!

Mood and Energy… keep them up!

Tryptophan banana smoothie

Looking for a quick healthy way to go with a sustained level of energy and a BIG smile on your face?

The banana in the smoothie contains tryptophan, a well-known precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter highly linked to our mood level. Banana as well helps sustain blood sugar with a glycemic index of 52, and hence provide a stable level of sugar in your blood. They are also a good source of vitamin B6, this vitamin is super important, as it is responsible for the synthesis of the non- essential amino acids within your body, and otherwise you would have to consume another extra ten amino acids on your diet, as if it is not already enough to think about all the vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids!!
